New Ways to Motivate Your Staff
Most businesses rely upon loyal and well-motivated staff to assure that work is done at a high degree of quality and satisfaction. Indeed, the very success of a business can depend upon the quality of performance of those the owner and manager trusts to do some of the most fundamental tasks. Wise managers and owners recognize this fact and go out of their way to see that good work is not only rewarded financially, but also recognized. An expression of appreciation and recognition is often as valuable as a few dollars addition in the salary, because it is something tangible that the employee receives in recognition of their performance and dedication.
While many employers reward employee dedication with pins and plaques for periods of employment, some are beginning to use more personally-oriented forms of awards. For example, a firm might reward a staff member with a gift card for a particular store or service. Or a staff member who has worked in a field may be awarded with their membership dues in that field’s professional organization paid by the employer; some even pay the costs for attendance to their annual conference. These “perks” – as many call them – not only benefit the employee, but they also give employers the chance to encourage personnel to keep up to date on new techniques and strategies that enable them to compete with others in business negotiations and project development.
Another award businesses may give employees is encouragement of recreational activities. Some employers may see that their personnel receive discounts from vendors like Orvis. A firm whose staff may be interested in outdoor activities like fly fishing, outdoor camping or hunting may see that those staff members earn awards that enable them to buy outdoor products from Orvis. These may include the opportunity to take advantage of Groupon coupons or promo codes that make it possible for them to take $10 off on their next purchase of Orvis products. Since Orvis has been in business since 1859, they can get the best waders or rods, duffels or vests and high-powered binoculars or camping supplies. All are designed for the outdoor person’s comfort and enjoyment. When employees return from vacations when they’ve enjoyed using such products, their batteries are fully charged and they’ve benefitted from the chance to enjoy the demonstrated appreciation of their employers.
